Cookie Cutter Prayers

What form has your prayers been taking lately?

Baking is one of the things I have enjoyed for quite some time. Through the years I have developed a bit of tradition with nieces and nephews during Christmas holiday(admittedly I have slacked this past couple of years), I gather all the kids together for a time of making and decorating sugar cookies. It’s the one time of year I get to pull out all of those cute shaped cookie cutters.  Despite the fact that I have many different shaped cookie cutters, there is always a select few cutters that are in more demand than others. Perhaps it’s there intricate shape or the size that causes all those little fingers to worry_shaped_prayers anxiously reach for them.

Just like certain cookie cutters tend to be used more than others, each of us have certain issues that tend to create anxiety in our lives. For you it may be concerns for children and mine might be job worries and for another sister it may be financial matters. Regardless what form it takes, each of us has some thing or things that if left unchecked can lead us into worry. And worry has a way of weighing us down (not to mention that we have been instructed not to do it).

So what do we those concerns? those worries?

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Philippians 4:6 (The Message) tweetable

We cut  those would be worries into a whole new shape through our prayers.

Wanda, this post went in a totally different direction than I expected. I expected it to say something about *cookie cutter* prayers in a negative way – like making them all the same, and not real. But, how pleasantly I was surprised!! What a great message! Shaping my worries into prayers – such a great visual. And yes, I would be the sister whose worries almost always center on concerns for my sons. But, I am going to “cut” those worries into prayers today, and “bake up” a whole bunch of faith *cookies”!!

    GOD BLESS!

After I wrote the title I thought about how it might have negative connotation but as I read and reflected upon that passage of scripture, I couldn’t get cookie cutter out of mind. May each us continuously cut those worries into proper form.
